‘Tis the season to don our tights, boots, and knee high socks. We get to bundle up and (re)introduce those toasty styling components that we hold so dear in our Winter wardrobe.
As a wearer of many-a-solid-black-dress, this is also the time of year that I look to tights to add a pop of color, texture, and silhouette into my look and I could not be more excited about the gorgeous new line we are carrying at Altar.
Beautifully handmade and hand-dyed tights by Eve SkyWalker feature an innovative product that is not like anything you’ve ever seen before. For many years, this designer has been employing natural dye techniques in her apparel, but now with her most recent collection, she has added an element of flora and fauna that takes our breath away.
The treatment is called botanical monoprinting; a process by which she forages fallen natural foliage and prints them directly onto the fabric. This process is time consuming and meditative and creates a beautiful imprint of each individual plant, flower and leaf as if etched onto the fabric. Every pair of tights is one of a kind hand print front and back.
The end result captures the filagree and contours of each petal and leaf in a stunning way. The use of natural dyes is both permanent and soft -- unlike many water based printing inks that appear very thick and risen.
We are currently one of the only stockists for this amazing product, available in an array of colors. Though each pair is implicitly one-of-a-kind, every single pair is given the careful treatment and technique that make them a statement piece.
