Who likes feminism?! Who is a feminist?! If you haven’t screamed for joy to both of those questions, you’re probably sad, alone, angry, and feel left behind by the world.
And if you refuse feminist ideals or the advocacy for women’s rights in support towards equality of the sexes and genders, you are also probably a hick with bad breath. Or an extremely overgrown child with deep internalized problems communicating and understanding. All in all, if you want to be a good person and have a good life: be a feminist. At least that’s my personal opinion and I’m doing pretty well.
Do you know what else I really love? Feminist products by feminist people.
Good products by good people made with good intentions for good things. This includes one of our newest additions to Altar PDX, Claws Out Polish. Owned and managed by none other than our very own Portland Monthly Fashion Editor, Eden Dawn, each shade of nail polish directly contributes 20% of its earnings to a wonderful non-profit organization. Here’s a rundown of what each nail polish shade donates to:
Liberty Polish - The Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO) working to promote the integration of refugees, immigrants and community as a means to support a self-sufficient, healthy and inclusive multi - ethnic society.
Suffragist Polish - The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) ensuring the political, educational, social and economic equality of all people to eliminate race-based discrimination.
Resistance Polish - The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) working in courts, legislatures, and communities to defend and preserve the individual constitutional rights and liberties of the United States, supporting LGBT people, ensuring digital privacy protections, ending mass incarcerations, preserving the right to vote, protecting the right to abortion, and defending the common people from government abuse and overreach.
Intersectional Polish - Emily’s List, working to elect pro-choice Democratic women to office.
Darcelle Polish - The Cascade Aids Project (CAP) helping to prevent the infection of HIV, supports and empowers those living with HIV, and eliminates HIV related stigma and health disparities
Uterus Polish - Planned Parenthood, supporting the fundamental rights throughout the world to manage his or her fertility, regardless of the individual's income, marital status, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, national origin, or residence.
As you can see, each of these nail polishes directly supports an organization dedicated to helping the rights and needs of every individual in the world. But not only do these all-American made products help an important cause, they also are made free of fish scales, animal testing and additive chemicals like Formaldehyde, Dibutyl Phthalate or Camphor. And to make things even better, even the premium labels on these bottle are created by an all women - owned local business.
I really love the shades of this nail polish line, each of the colors are versatile, useful and varying on the color wheel, supplying options for you to mix and match with your outfit. I personally love Darcelle because I love grey nail polish and the way it looks on my hands. I find that it compliments my skin tone really well, lasts a VERY long time, and doesn’t leave a hint of streakiness at all.
Come by our store to pick up a Claws Out Polish. Look good, feel good, and a do a little bit of good <3.
